App Preview enables you to view and interact with PMDs in App Builder without having to deploy to a tenant, helping you to iterate on app development much more quickly.

You can access App Preview in several ways:

-   In App Builder, select any PMD and click the ![](GUID-02fc9a29-b7c9-43ce-b30e-27d87445b692-enHYPHENus.png) icon in the top-right corner.
-   In the Workday Command Line Interface (WDCLI) use the app:preview command. For syntax, see: [Reference: Workday Developer CLI (WDCLI) for Extend Apps Commands](/wcp_docs/GUID-16d9d3f3-ba63-4022-8a84-ad78bd5189ca-enHYPHENus.html#).


The App Preview panel opens and displays a preview of your PMD.

App Preview only supports the UTC timezone, en-US language, and en_US locale.

## <a id="section_1"></a>App Preview Pop-Out

To launch a pop-out window or tab from within App Preview, click the ![](GUID-93ac27c7-8064-43fb-824d-c7073376c473-enHYPHENus.png) icon in the header. The pop-out includes debugging tools and additional variable and endpoint value data (Page State) for all Page Types. The app preview that opens in a new tab is not tied to the original side panel. You'll see these behaviors:

-   If you enter any values in the app preview, then open the preview in a new tab, those values won't display in the new open tab.
-   If you navigate to other pages within the original app preview, then open the preview in a new tab, the new tab opens with the currently selected page (not the current previewed page).


The pop-out includes these tabs:

-   <b>Scripts Console</b>: Displays any console logs from any PMD script on the page. You can write and execute any PMD scripts against your current preview page for Edit Page Types.
-   <b>Page State</b>: You can explore the different values and data for these items on your page:

    -   Variables (Available for all Page Types)
    -   Endpoints (Available for all Page Types)
    -   Tags (Only available on Edit Page Types). The only listed tags are those that have an ID filled out.



## <a id="section_mnj_bg5_gwb"></a>Displaying and Submitting Data

When you preview a PMD in App Preview, pages with inbound or outbound endpoints can't display unless you do one of the following:

-   Connect to a tenant.
-   Configure mock data responses for each endpoint.


<b>Connect To Tenant</b>

You can connect to a Development or Implementation tenant to read and write data from your tenant in App Preview.

Connecting to a tenant enables your app to:

-   Behave the same way in App Preview as when it's deployed to a tenant.
-   Read and write data from Workday and external systems.
-   Use real data without having to set up mock data for all endpoints.


<b>Note:</b>

-   When App Preview is connected to a tenant, the app invokes all inbound and outbound API calls. This might update data in your tenant or other systems.
-   Connecting to a tenant doesn't deploy the app to the tenant. You can deploy the app to a tenant that's different from the tenant you connect to in App Preview.

<b>Mock Data</b>

If you don't want to connect to a tenant, you can configure mock data responses in the <b>Testing</b> section of App Builder and map them to each endpoint in the PMD.

Mock data enables you to:

-   Quickly test logic and verify dynamic scenarios using realistic sample JSON responses without having to change the source code.
-   Protect against changing data in your tenant or in external systems.


Mock data is required for endpoints that have an `authType` of OAuth2 because tenant connection doesn't support that `authType`.
