### Prerequisites

<a id="prereq_N10022_N1001F_N10001"></a>
Create or open a Workday Extend app in App Builder.

### Context

<a id="context_N10029_N1001F_N10001"></a>
Business objects:

- Extend Workday’s single object model to create new objects.
- Persist and store app data.

### Steps

1. <a id="step_N10041_N1003E_N1001F_N10001"></a>In App Builder, click the <b>Add</b> button next to <b>Business Objects</b> in the components panel.
2. <a id="step_N10052_N1003E_N1001F_N10001"></a>Provide a <b>Name</b> for the business object. The name must begin with an uppercase alphabetic character (A–Z) and contain only alphanumeric characters (A–Z, a – z, 0–9). The maximum length allowed is 100 characters.
3. <a id="step_N10062_N1003E_N1001F_N10001"></a>Use the toggle switch in the upper right of the interface to ensure that App Builder is in Visual mode.
4. <a id="step_N1006B_N1003E_N1001F_N10001"></a>Use the <b>Business Object</b> tab to provide fundamental information about your component. As you complete this tab, consider:

<table><thead><tr><th> Option</th><th> Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><b>Name</b></td><td>You can edit the name you provided earlier.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Label</b></td><td>(Optional) Provide a label that succinctly describes the nature of the business object. <p>If you specify a label, it must be unique for each model component type within an app.</p> <p>If you don't specify a label, Workday displays the name in the tenant.</p></td></tr><tr><td><b>Default Collection Name</b></td><td>Provide a name for Extend to use as an identifier for REST API resource to access all instances of the business object. Workday recommends that you use a pluralization of your object. Example: charities.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Default Collection Label</b></td><td>Provide a label for Extend to use as the unfiltered report data source for the business object. Workday recommends that you prefix the business object with All and then pluralize it. Example: All Charities.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Default Security Domains</b></td><td>Select the default security domains that control access to the business object. Each business object requires at least 1 default security domain. You can only use the names of security domains defined in the same app.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

5. <a id="step_N10078_N1003E_N1001F_N10001"></a>The <b>Fields</b> tab displays the fields that you've created for your business object. As you add a new field, on the <b>Properties</b> and <b>Security</b> tabs, consider:

<table><thead><tr><th> Option</th><th> Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><b>Name</b></td><td>Provide a name for the field. The name must begin with a lowercase alphabetic character (a–z) and contain only alphanumeric characters (A–Z, a – z, 0–9). The maximum length allowed is 100 characters.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Label</b></td><td>Provide a label that succinctly indicates the purpose of the field.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Type</b></td><td>Specify of the type of data that the field contains. These types are available: <ul><li> TEXT
</li><li> RICH_TEXT
</li><li> DECIMAL
</li><li> BOOLEAN
</li><li> INTEGER
</li><li> DATE
</li><li> CURRENCY
</li><li> SINGLE_INSTANCE
</li></ul></td></tr><tr><td><b>Enable Reference ID</b></td><td>Applies to text fields only. Enable this toggle to designate this field as the Reference ID of the business object. When you mark a field as the Reference ID, the field is required and you can't delete it. You can only configure this attribute once for each business object.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Enable as Display Name</b></td><td>Applies to text and single instance fields only. Enable this toggle to use the contents of this field to set the display value of the business object. You can only configure this attribute once for each business object.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Enable for Purge</b></td><td>Specify whether you want to enable your app to support the purging of the instance field data.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Decimals</b></td><td>Applies to decimal fields only. Specify the number of decimal places that the number uses. The allowed range is 1–5. <p><b>Note:</b> Once your app has been promoted, you can only increase the number of decimal places. You can't decrease it.</p></td></tr><tr><td><b>Precision</b></td><td>Applies to date fields only. Specify how precise the date is. These options are available: <ul><li> Millisecond
</li><li> Second
</li><li> Minute
</li><li> Hour
</li><li> Day
</li><li> Month
</li><li> Year
</li></ul></td></tr><tr><td><b>Filter Targets/Relates To</b></td><td>Applies to single instance fields only. Select a target business object defined in the same app or a target Workday-delivered business object.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Enable Security by Target</b></td><td>Applies to single instance fields only. Enable this toggle to delegate contextual security to the instance of the target business object in addition to the security it applies to the Extend business object. You can only configure this attribute once for each business object.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Default Security Domains</b></td><td>The default security domains that control access to the business object.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Security Domains</b></td><td>Specify security domains to override the default security domains defined at the business object level. You can only use the names of security domains defined in the same app.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

6. <a id="step_N101E2_N10070_N10051_N10001"></a>The <b>Derived Fields</b> tab displays the fields that you've created for your business object.

</li><li> DECIMAL
</li><li> BOOLEAN
</li><li> INTEGER
</li><li> DATE
</li></ul> <p><b>Note:</b> Extend doesn't support the CURRENCY or SINGLE_INSTANCE field types for derived fields.</p></td></tr><tr><td><b>Decimals</b></td><td>Applies to decimal fields only. Specify the number of decimal places that the number uses. The allowed range is 1–5. <p><b>Note:</b> Once your app has been promoted, you can only increase the number of decimal places. You can't decrease it.</p></td></tr><tr><td><b>Date</b></td><td>Applies to date fields only. Specify how precise the date is. These options are available: <ul><li> Millisecond
</li><li> Second
</li><li> Minute
</li><li> Hour
</li><li> Day
</li><li> Month
</li><li> Year
</li></ul></td></tr><tr><td><b>Expression</b></td><td>Enter an expression to define the content in the field. See <a href="/wcp_docs/syr1643821053546.html">Reference: Derived Fields</a>.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Default Security Domains</b></td><td>The default security domains that control access to the business object.</td></tr><tr><td><b>Security Domains</b></td><td>Specify security domains to override the default security domains defined at the business object level. You can only use the names of security domains defined in the same app.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

7. <a id="step_N1008D_N1003E_N1001F_N10001"></a>The <b>Relationships</b> tab displays the 1-to-1 relationships between business objects, attachment objects, and Workday-delivered targets. Click <b>Add Relationship</b> to define the properties of a new relationship. Click an existing relationship to edit its properties. You can create relationships:

    - Between your app's business objects and attachment objects, in any direction.
    - From your app's business objects and attachment objects to Workday-delivered targets.
