Reference: Proxy Server Settings for Workday Developer CLI (WDCLI) for Extend Apps Commands
layout: subsection

If you need to use a proxy server for routing outbound network calls, you can set the proxy server using the `http_proxy` or `https_proxy` environment variables. The WDCLI library for outbound network calls respects these environment variables.

## Prerequisites

- Connection information for the proxy server such as the URL, port number, and credentials (if required by the proxy server).
- Update access to environment variables.

## Proxy Server Environment Variables

Environment Variable

Description

http_server or HTTP_SERVER

The URL of the HTTP or HTTPS proxy server. Both HTTP and HTTPS calls use this setting. Example:

http_proxy=http://proxy.example.com

If the proxy server requires credentials, include the username and password:

http_proxy=http://username:password@proxy.example.com

If the proxy server uses a port other than 80, append the port number:

http_proxy=http://username:password@proxy.example.com:8080

https_server or HTTPS_SERVER

The URL of the HTTPS proxy server. Only HTTPS calls use this setting. Example:

https_proxy=https://proxy.example.com

If the proxy server requires credentials, include the username and password:

https_proxy=https://username:password@proxy.example.com

If the proxy server uses a port other than 80, append the port number:

https_proxy=https://username:password@proxy.example.com:8080

no_proxy or NO_PROXY

Deletes proxy settings and excludes hosts from being used as proxies.

## Setting the Proxy Server on Windows

1. On the Start menu, search for environment variables.
2. On the Environment Variables window, under System variable, add the appropriate environment variables to set the proxy servers globally.

    Depending on your Windows version, you might need to restart Windows.

3. Start a new Windows command prompt to run a WDCLI command.

If you don't want to set the proxy server globally, you can set the environment variables on the command prompt before you run a WDCLI command. Example:

```
$ set http_server=http://proxy.example.com
$ wdcli wql:dataSources:list
```

## Setting the Proxy Server on macOS and Linux

1. In your home directory, create or open the `.bash_profile` file.
2. On a new line, add an `export` command for the appropriate environment variable. Example:

    ```
    export HTTP_PROXY=http://proxy.example.com
    ```

3.  Save your changes.
4. Start a new terminal session, and run a WDCLI command.

If you don't want to set the proxy server globally, you can set the environment variables on your terminal session before you run a WDCLI command. Example:

```
$ export HTTP_PROXY=http://proxy.example.com
$ wcpcli wql:dataSources:list
```
