<a id="section_N10021_N1001E_N10001"></a>
Represents an object instance within an `instanceList`. Each item in the `instanceList` is an `instance` tag, whether or not you specify `"type": "instance"`.

Only use `instance` within an `instanceList`. You can't use the `instance` tag on its own.

Use `instance` on view and edit pages.

For usage examples, see the Usage section in [instanceList](/wcp_docs/hcb1512514976081.html).

-   <b>action</b>

    Data type: string

    Specifies how the client displays the link or button. Valid values:

    -   AUXILIARY
    -   person
    -   GET
    -   Home
    -   LINK
    -   PRIMARY
    -   URL
    -   attachment
    -   esign_connect

-   <b>descriptor</b>

    Data type: binding-String

    The display value of the instance.

-   <b>id</b>

    Data type: binding-String

    Unique identifier used to reference this widget from other tags.

    Notes:

    - The `id` must start with a letter.
    - The `id` must be unique per page.
    - To enable other widgets to reference this widget `id`, place this widget before the other widgets on the PMD. The PMD validation returns an "Undefined variable" error if it doesn't find a previously defined `id` in the PMD.
    - Workday recommends that you include the `id` in your tag definitions for debugging purposes.

-   <b>iconId</b>

    Data type: binding-String

    The ID for the icon for display with the instance.

    Valid values:

    -   mime_plain
    -   mime_java
    -   mime_binary
    -   mime_msexcel
    -   mime_msppt
    -   mime_msword
    -   mime_pdf
    -   mime_post
    -   mime_rtf
    -   mime_zip
    -   mime_wav
    -   mime_image
    -   mime_mpeg
    -   mime_html
    -   mime_etf
    -   mime_xml
    -   mime_avi
    -   mime_qt
    -   mime_msvideo

-   <b>mimeType</b>

    Data type: binding-String

    Specifies the mime type for Presentation Components to view, or for an app to open. Example: `application/pdf` for PDF files.

-   <b>view</b>

    Data type: binding-Boolean

    If "true", the text on the instance displays a link to view instance details. Specify the link on the `taskReference` attribute. If "false", the instance displays plain text. Use the `view` attribute only on view pages. Note that this `view` attribute doesn't apply to the related actions menu and view link enabled by the `wid` attribute.

-   <b>wid</b>

    Data type: binding-String

    A Workday ID that uniquely identifies an instance of a business object. The presence of the `wid` attribute enables the related actions menu and view link on the Workday business object instance.

    This sample `instanceList` displays a worker instance. The `wid` attribute enables a related actions menu next to the worker instance. The `wid` value specifies the Workday ID from an endpoint named `selectedWorker`.

    ```
    {
     "id": "workerWithRelActions",
     "type": "instanceList",
     "label": "See the related actions on this worker.",
     "instanceList": [
        {
           "id": "<% selectedWorker.id %>",
           "descriptor": "<% selectedWorker.descriptor %>",
           "wid": "<% selectedWorker.id %>"
        }
     ]
    },
    ```

    Notes:

    - Use `wid` on view pages only.
    - Only the `instanceList` widget supports the related actions menu and view link. Don't use `wid` in an `instanceList` or `instanceLoop` tag for other list widgets such as `checkBoxList`, `panelList`, and others.
    - To disable the view link and display it as plain text, set the `view` attribute of `instanceList` to `false`.
    - To disable the related actions menu, set the `relatedTask` attribute of `instanceList` to `false`.
    - If you specify the `id` attribute, set the `id` value to the same `wid` value, as shown in the example.
    - Currently, the preview feature of the related actions menu isn't available.
