### Context

<a id="context_N10021_N1001E_N10001"></a>
You can use the Business Process REST API to manage Workday-delivered business process events.

<b>Note:</b> You can also use the Business Process REST API to manage custom business process events, but you can't use the Custom Business Process REST API to manage Workday-delivered business process events.

### Steps

1. <a id="step_N1002F_N1002C_N1001E_N10001"></a>Make a POST request to initiate a specific business process. Example: Title Change.

    `POST https://api.workday.com/common/v1/workers/<worker_WID>/businessTitleChanges`

    This creates a new business process event instance. The response includes these fields:

    ```
    {
      "descriptor": "Title Change: Adam Carlton",
      "id": "<b>c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea</b>",
      "proposedBusinessTitle": “CEO”
    }
    ```

<table><thead><tr><th>Field</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>descriptor</td><td>The display ID of the business process event instance.</td></tr><tr><td>id</td><td>The Workday ID of the business process event instance.</td></tr><tr><td>proposedBusinessTitle</td><td>The proposed business title for the worker.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

2. <a id="step_N10098_N1002C_N1001E_N10001"></a>Make 2 separate GET requests to display the event information for an approval page.
    1. Get the specific app data. Example:

        `GET https://api.workday.com/common/v1/workers/f9512adbf718905b9db95249f73500ed/businessTitleChanges/<b>c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea</b>`

        ```
        {
          "total": 1,
          "data": [
        {
            "descriptor": "Title Change: Adam Carlton",
            "id": "c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea",
            "proposedBusinessTitle": “CEO”,
            "currentBusinessTitle": “Manager”,
            "completedDate": "2019-02-25",
            "initiated": "2019-02-25",
            "initiator": {
              "descriptor": "Adam Carlton"
              "id": "f9512adbf718905b9db95249f73500ed",
            },
            "subject": {
              "descriptor": "Adam Carlton"
              "id": "f9512adbf718905b9db95249f73500ed",
            },
            "effective": "2019-02-25",
            "due": "2019-02-26"
            }
          ]
        }
        ```

    2. Get the generic business process event data. Example:

        `GET https://api.workday.com/businessProcess/v1/events/c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea`

        ```
        {
          "descriptor": "Title Change: Adam Carlton",
          "id": "c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea",
          "for": {
            "descriptor": "Adam Carlton"
            "id": "f9512adbf718905b9db95249f73500ed",
          },
          "overallBusinessProcess": {
            "descriptor": "Title Change: Adam Carlton"
            "id": "c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea",
          },
          "completedDate": "2019-02-25",
          "creationDate": "2019-02-25",
          "dueDate": "2019-02-26",
          "status": "In Progress",
          "initiator": {
            "descriptor": "Adam Carlton"
            "id": "f9512adbf718905b9db95249f73500ed",
          },
          "effectiveDate": "2019-02-25"
        }
        ```

3. <a id="step_N100D5_N1002C_N1001E_N10001"></a>View all business process steps that are in progress for the business process event. Example:

    `GET https://api.workday.com/businessProcess/v1/events/c9712edbf118105f9db95242f71500ea/inProgressSteps`

    ```
    {
      "total": 1,
      "data": [
        {
          "descriptor": "Awaiting Approval",
          "id": "<b>b4392ebca150505e9ea95342f71410ba</b>",
          "awaitingPersons": [
            {
              "descriptor": "f1345acbd140695e9ea95342f71310fe",
              "id": "Steve Morgan"
            }
          ],
          "anonymous": true,
          "status": “Awaiting Action”
          "dueDate": "2019-02-25",
          "delayedDate": "2019-02-25",
          "creationDate": "2019-02-25"
        }
      ]
    }
    ```

4. <a id="step_N100E4_N1002C_N1001E_N10001"></a>Note the Workday ID of the business process event step that is awaiting approval.
5. <a id="step_N100ED_N1002C_N1001E_N10001"></a>Make an <i>approve</i> or <i>deny</i> POST request in the businessProcess service for the event step. Example:

    `POST https://api.workday.com/businessProcess/v1/eventSteps/<b>b4392ebca150505e9ea95342f71410ba</b>/approve`
