### Prerequisites

<a id="prereq_1"></a>
[Create Custom Business Process Default Definitions](/wcp_docs/sry1518459645988.html).

### Steps

1. <a id="step_N10030_N1002D_N1001E_N10001"></a>Make an <i>events</i> POST request in the customBusinessProcess service on submission of the custom task you created to start your custom business process.

    Example: POST https://api.workday.com/customBusinessProcess/v1/events

    ```
    {
      "description":"Insert the Workdog custom business process event description",
      "customBusinessProcessType":
      {
         "id":"Custom_Business_Process_Type_ID=Workdog_App"
      },
      "initiatingCustomTask":
      {
          "id":"If default is not provided on custom business process type creation, insert one of the initiating actions provided on the Workdog custom business process type"
      },
      "for":
      {
          "id":"Insert the specific worker's Workday ID"
      }
    }
    ```

2. <a id="step_N10045_N1002D_N1001E_N10001"></a>(Optional) If you configured your custom business process type with a custom object definition and a target business object of Worker:
    1. Use the custom object returned in the response to create a snapshotted custom object.

        ```
        {
          "id": "generated ID",
          "descriptor": "string response"
          "effectiveDate": "Can provide in above request, but will be current date if not",
          "customBusinessProcessType": {
            "id": "Workday ID provided on the Workdog custom business process type",
            "descriptor": "string response",
            "Custom_Business_Process_Type_ID": "string response"
          },
          "initiatingCustomTask": {
            "id": "string response",
            "descriptor": "string response"
          },
          "for": {
            "id": "Worker ID",
            "descriptor": "string response"
          },
          <b>"customObject": {
            "id": "custom object Workday ID for specific target worker of event",
            "descriptor": "string response"
          }</b>
        }
        ```

    2. Make a <i>workerCustomDataSnapshot</i> POST request using the custom object Workday ID returned from the <i>event</i> response.

        Example: POST https://api.workday.com/customObjects/v1/{Custom ObjectAlias}/{workerCustomDataSnapshotID}

        ```
        {
            "workerCustomDataSnapshot": {
                "id": "Insert the custom object Workday ID that you received in the event response"
            },
            "weight": "40 pounds",
            "breed" : "golden retriever"
        }
        ```

    3. (Optional) For a Revise or Approval page, you can make a <i>customObjects</i> GET request for a single-instance or a multi-instance custom object using the same workerCustomDataSnapshot ID as above.

        Example (Single-Instance): GET https://api.workday.com/customObjects/v1/{customObjectAlias}/{workerCustomDataSnapshotID}

        Example (Multi-Instance): GET https://api.workday.com/common/v1/workerCustomDataSnapshot/{workerCustomDataSnapshotID}/customObjects/{customObjectAlias}

3. <a id="step_N10080_N1002D_N1001E_N10001"></a>Make a <i>launch</i> POST request in the customBusinessProcess service for the event you created.

    Example: POST https://api.workday.com/customBusinessProcess/v1/events/{eventID}/launch

    ```
    {
      "comment":"Initiate the Business Process",
      "description":"Insert description here"
    }
    ```
