### Prerequisites

Create or open a Workday Extend app in App Builder.

### Context

You can use App Builder to author context-free tasks and tasks in the context of:

- Workday Extend business objects of your app.
- Workday-delivered business objects that supports the `target` attribute.

Note: You can't use an attachment as the target business object of a task.

Secured users can use a context-free task to access your Extend app in Workday. Users can also find context-free tasks in global search.

Adding context to your task enables users to access the task as a related action from the business object.

You can apply contextual security to a task if:

- A Workday-delivered business object provides context for the task.
- A Workday-delivered target business object contextually secures the Workday Extend business object.

In this case, Workday also evaluates the processing user against each instance of the Workday-delivered business object.

Note: When you apply contextual security to a task, the domain security policy for the task shouldn't contain any unconstrained security groups.

### Steps

1. In App Builder, click the Add button next to Tasks in the components panel.
2. Provide a Name for the task. The name must begin with an uppercase alphabetic character (A–Z) and contain only alphanumeric characters (A–Z, a – z, 0–9). The maximum length allowed is 100 characters.
3. Use the toggle switch in the upper right of the interface to ensure that App Builder is in Visual mode.
4. Provide fundamental information about your component. As you complete this task, consider:

    Option

    Description

Name

You can edit the name you provided earlier.

Label

(Optional) Provide a label that succinctly indicates the purpose of the task. If you specify a label, it must be unique for each model component type within an app.
If you don't specify a label, Workday displays the name in the tenant.

Security Domains

Specify security domains to override the default security domains defined at the business object level. You can only use the names of security domains defined in the same app.

Page Route

Provide a page route, as defined in the AMD, for your task.
If you specify a business object, you can access its Workday ID in the page route using the special parameter {taskObjectId}. The corresponding page will be able to access the Workday ID of the business object in the URL.

Business Object

Specify the business object in whose context this task appears as a related actions menu item. To make your context-free, don't specify a business object.

Enable Security by Business Object

Enable this toggle to secure provide contextual security on the task in addition to the domain security policy set on the task. You'll only be able to view or run the task as a related action from the instances that you're contextually secured to access. To use this feature, you must specify a business object for the task.
