### Prerequisites

- Create or open a Workday Extend app in App Builder.

- Extend pages that the business process steps send to the recipient’s inbox:

    - Action page: A data entry form.
    - Approval page: A view page for approval and denial steps.
    - Revise page: An edit page sent to the recipient’s inbox when a step is sent back.
    - Details page: A view page that displays event details.

See [Business Processes in Extend Apps](/wcp_docs/GUID-c5613e86-0c6e-4537-a747-b47814a784a3-enHYPHENus.html).

### Steps

1. In App Builder, click the Add button next to Business Processes in the components panel.
2. Provide a Name for the business process. The name must begin with an uppercase alphabetic character (A–Z) and contain only alphanumeric characters (A–Z, a – z, 0–9). The maximum length allowed is 100 characters.
3. Use the toggle switch in the upper right of the interface to ensure that App Builder is in Visual mode.
4. Use the Business Process tab to provide fundamental information about your component. As you complete this tab, consider:

    Option

    Description

Name

You can edit the name you provided earlier.

Label

(Optional) Provide a label that succinctly indicates the purpose of the business process.
If you specify a label, it must be unique for each model component type within an app.

If you don't specify a label, Workday displays the name in the tenant.

Target Business Object

Select a business object you defined for the app. Workday creates a 2-way reference between the event business object for the business process and the business object defined as the target.

Security Domains

One or more app security domains which control access to the business process steps. You can enable and configure the security domains in App Manager.

Event Details

Specify the page route to a PMD defined in this app. You can include the
{eventId}
in the path so the PMD can use it.
Workday renders this page whenever event details display in the tenant.

Description

(Optional) Provide a description that explains the functionality of the business process.

Enable for Orchestrate

Enable this toggle to specify that you can:

    Use an Orchestration to initiate the business process.

    Edit the business process definition to add an Orchestration Service step.

You should enable this toggle when you want the orchestration to pause when the business process starts and resume only when the Orchestration Service step configured on the business process definition resumes it.

5. Use the Actions tab to define the approval actions that are enabled on your business process. As you complete this tab, consider:

    Option

    Description

Approval Step Actions

Specify which approval actions are available in your business process:

    APPROVE: Move to the next step in the business process.

    DENY: Terminate the Business Process.

    SEND BACK: Request a revision.

All 3 actions are automatically enabled.

Page Route URLs

Provide page routes, as defined in the AMD, to the PMDs in this app that the Business Process routes to when the APPROVE and SEND BACK actions are invoked. You can include the
{eventId}
in the path so the PMD can use it.
Important: Include the
{eventId}
in the path. The
{eventId}
is the variable placeholder for the Workday ID of the business process event, which is passed as the event context in the corresponding pages. This enables pages to reference the event using the
<% queryParams.eventId %>
variable.

If you don't define a page route, Extend provides a basic approval experience to users in My Tasks with no contextual information.

See Concept: Business Process Steps and Page Routes.

Enable Cancellation

Enable this toggle to allow users to cancel the business process event.

Enable Manual Send Back

Enable this toggle to allow an administrator to manually send back the business process at any point in time even when the business process isn't assigned to them.
To manually send back a business process, the administrator must be in a security group that has access to the Manual Send Back action in the Who Can Do Actions on Entire Business Process section of the business process security policy.

Enable Rescind

Enable this toggle to allow users to rescind the business process event.

When you configure a new Extend business process as a subprocess, we automatically enable this toggle.

6. Use the Steps tab to add other steps to your business process. You can add a maximum of 5 steps. One step is automatically added. You can edit its values. As you add a step, consider:

    Option

    Description

Name

Provide a name for the step.

Label

(Optional) Provide a label that succinctly indicates the purpose of the step.

Page Route URL

Specify the page route to a PMD you created for the action step in the business process definition. Include the
{eventStepId}
in the path so the PMD can use it.

Description

(Optional) Provide a description that explains the functionality of the step.
