The `string` namespace provides functions for a string, which contains an alphanumeric word or phrase.

If an instance method is available, call a string function as a method on the `String` instance:

```
thisString.functionName(functionParam1, functionParam2)
```

Alternatively, you can call a string function using its `string` namespace syntax, where the `String` instance is the first parameter:

```
string:functionName(thisString, functionParam1, functionParam2)
```
