You can use App Builder to author tasks in JSON. The tasks you author are native to your Workday Extend app. Since tasks aren't tenanted, you don't need to configure them separately for each tenant on which you install the app.

<b>Note:</b> The tasks discussed here aren't custom tasks, which are tasks you create in a Workday tenant using the <b>Create Custom Task</b> task.

Use tasks to easily and naturally integrate your Workday Extend app into the Workday application. You can:

-   Create context-free tasks.
-   Create tasks in the context of:

    -   Workday Extend business objects of your app.
    -   Workday-delivered business objects that support the `target` attribute.

    <b>Note:</b> You can't use an attachment as the target business object of a task.

-   Secure your tasks using Workday’s configurable security model.


In addition, you can use context-free tasks to enable various entry points to your app in Workday:

-   Announcements
-   Configurable Alerts
-   Dashboards
-   Hubs
-   Journeys
-   Landing Pages
-   Shortcuts
-   To Dos


<b>Note:</b> You can only distribute tasks to users in Journeys if you've enabled Journeys on your tenant.
