## <a id="section_1"></a>Properties

Provide a meaningful <b>Reference Name</b> for the step as it will appear in your orchestration.

In the <b>Function Name</b> field on the <b>General</b> tab, use Expression Builder to specify the Amazon Resource Name of the AWS Lambda function you want to invoke.

You can use the full ARN or a partial ARN that includes the function name and any necessary qualifiers. Examples: `my-function` or `arn:aws:lambda:us-west-2:123456789012:function:my-function:1.0`.

You can also use a string expression to dynamically generate the function name at runtime.

In the <b>Payload</b> field, specify the input data to be passed to the AWS Lambda function. The expression can evaluate to a JSON object or array of JSON objects. The maximum size for the payload is 6 MB.

The boolean expression in the  <b>Return of Log Tail?</b>  field determines whether the response from the function invocation includes logging information. If the value is `true`, the response includes a `LogResult` field containing up to 4 KB of base64-encoded CloudWatch logs.

<b>Note:</b> Including logs in the function response can increase the latency of the function invocation.

The boolean expression in the <b>Dry Run?</b> field determines whether Orchestrate performs a permissions test. If the value is `true`, Orchestrate checks permissions for the action, without actually making the function request.

If you have the required permissions, the error response is `DryRun-Operation`. If you don't, it's `UnauthorizedOperation`.

On the <b>Auth</b> tab, use the <b>Authentication</b> drop-down menu to select a saved AWS Signature v4 credential or to use the default <i>Assumed Role</i>.

Use the <b>Settings</b> tab to configure these request and response details:

- Overall Timeout: the total time allowed for the operation.
- Connect Timeout: the time allowed for a client-server connection to establish.
- Response Timeout: the total time allowed for establishing a connection.
- Retry Settings: select a predefined Retry policy.

If the request is successful, the component outputs:

- HTTP Response Code: The HTTP status code returned by the AWS Lambda function invocation.
- HTTP Response Body: The response data returned by the AWS Lambda function invocation. This output can be used to capture any data returned by the function, such as a confirmation message. The `content-type` of the response will be `application/json`.
- Function Error: The error message returned by the AWS Lambda function invocation, if an error occurred. This output is useful for handling errors that may occur during the invocation.
- Executed Version: The version of the AWS Lambda function that was executed. This output can be useful for tracking which version of the function was invoked.
- Log Result: The base64-encoded log output from the AWS Lambda function invocation. This output can be useful for troubleshooting issues that may have occurred during the invocation.
