Sign in to the [AWS Command Line Interface](https://aws.amazon.com/cli/). For more information, refer to [Authenticate to Workday-Provided AWS Account](/wcp_docs/GUID-aef194e4-cf8a-4d71-8550-a77573a3e512-enHYPHENus.html).

An Amazon S3 bucket (workday-wcp-<org-short-id>-us-west-2) is pre-created for you in your account. You can find your account’s short ID on the Workday Developer Site under the <b>Account</b> area on the <b>Overview</b> tab. This bucket is encrypted with KMS key for data security. You can use this pre-created bucket only. You can't create new buckets.

To return the exact name of your Amazon S3 bucket, execute the

`$ aws s3api list-buckets`

CLI command. For additional information, please refer to the [AWS CLI Command Reference](https://awscli.amazonaws.com/v2/documentation/api/latest/reference/s3api/list-buckets.html).

## <a id="section_1"></a>Uploading Objects to an S3 Bucket

To upload files to your Amazon S3 bucket using the AWS CLI, execute the

`$ aws s3api put-object –bucket <bucket-name> --key <key-name> --body <path-to-file>`

CLI command. For additional information, please refer to the [AWS CLI Command Reference](https://awscli.amazonaws.com/v2/documentation/api/latest/reference/s3api/put-object.html).

For information about programmatic uploads to Amazon S3, please refer to [Uploading objects - Amazon Simple Storage Service](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/upload-objects.html).

## <a id="section_2"></a>Downloading Objects from an S3 Bucket

To download files from your Amazon S3 bucket using the AWS CLI, execute the

`$ aws s3api get-object –bucket <bucket-name> --key <key-name> <file-name>`

CLI command. For additional information, please refer to the [AWS CLI Command Reference](https://awscli.amazonaws.com/v2/documentation/api/latest/reference/s3api/get-object.html).

For information about programmatic downloads from Amazon S3, please refer to [Downloading an object - Amazon Simple Storage Service](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/download-objects.html).

## <a id="section_4"></a>Store Amazon S3 Component Orchestration

This orchestration enables you to store data to Amazon S3. In the request, you must specify:

<table><thead></thead><tbody><tr><td>Reference Name</td><td>The name you use in the Expression Builder to refer to this component from other components.</td></tr><tr><td>Bucket</td><td>The name of the Amazon S3 bucket where the object will be stored. This can be an expression that evaluates to a string.</td></tr><tr><td>Key</td><td>The key of the object to store. This can be an expression that evaluates to a string.</td></tr><tr><td>Request Body</td><td>The data to be stored. This can be an expression that evaluates to a supported DataType.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

If the request is successful, the component will output:

<table><thead></thead><tbody><tr><td>HTTP response code</td><td>The HTTP status code returned by the API indicating the result of the request.</td></tr><tr><td>ETag</td><td>A unique identifier for the uploaded object. The ETag is an opaque string that represents the entity tag for the uploaded object.</td></tr><tr><td>Version ID</td><td>The version ID of the stored object. If versioning is not enabled for the bucket, this value is null.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

<b>Note:</b>

- This component derives the content type from the data context and uses the Standard storage class for Amazon S3 storage.
- The component uses the default Amazon S3 encryption option SSE-S3. It supports “bucket owner enforced setting” and sets a bucket-owner-full-control ACL, which grants the bucket owner full control over the object that was uploaded to their bucket, regardless of who uploaded it. The owner of the bucket can perform any operation on the object, such as reading, writing, deleting, and modifying the permissions of the object.
- The component has a 1 minute response timeout and a 1 minute overall timeout (inclusive of request and response). The component does not retry for failed requests.

## <a id="section_3"></a>Get Amazon S3 Component Orchestration

This orchestration enables you to retrieve data from Amazon S3. In the request, you must specify:

<table><thead></thead><tbody><tr><td>Reference Name</td><td>The name you use in the Expression Builder to refer to this component from other components.</td></tr><tr><td>Bucket</td><td>The name of the Amazon S3 bucket from which to retrieve the object. This can be an expression that evaluates to a string.</td></tr><tr><td>Key</td><td>The key of the object to retrieve. This can be an expression that evaluates to a string.</td></tr><tr><td>Response Type</td><td>The content type to use for the response. If not specified, the content type is inferred from the object’s metadata.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

If the request is successful, the component will output:

<table><thead></thead><tbody><tr><td>HTTP response code</td><td>The HTTP status code returned by the API indicating the result of the request.</td></tr><tr><td>Response</td><td>The response data.</td></tr><tr><td>ETag</td><td>A unique identifier for the uploaded object. The ETag is an opaque string that represents the entity tag for the downloaded object.</td></tr><tr><td>Content-type</td><td>The content type of the retrieved object.</td></tr><tr><td>Last-Modified</td><td>The timestamp indicating when the object was last modified.</td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

<b>Note:</b>

- This component retrieves the most recent version of the object, and retrieves the entire object all at once, rather than using partial objects.
- The component has a 1 minute response timeout and a 1 minute overall timeout (inclusive of request and response). The component does not retry for failed requests.
