## Amazon S3 Monitoring and Error Handling

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) is an object storage service that offers industry-leading scalability, data availability, security, and performance. An Amazon S3 bucket (workday-wcp-<org-short-id>-us-west-2) is pre-created for you in your account. You can find your account’s short ID on the Workday Developer Site under the Account area of the Overview tab.

To access this bucket from your Lambda function you will need to have the pre-created Lambda execution role (WorkdayExtendLambdaExecutionRole) assigned to your function. Please refer to the [Amazon S3 Troubleshooting documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/troubleshooting.html) for more detailed information.

## <a id="section_1"></a>AWS Lambda Monitoring and Error Handling

AWS Lambda integrates with other AWS services to help you monitor and troubleshoot your Lambda functions. Lambda automatically monitors Lambda functions on your behalf and reports metrics through Amazon CloudWatch. To help you monitor your code when it runs, Lambda automatically tracks the number of requests, the invocation duration per request, and the number of requests that result in an error. For additional information, please refer to the:

-   [AWS Lambda Monitoring documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/lambda-monitoring.html).
-   [AWS Lambda Troubleshooting documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/lambda-troubleshooting.html).

<b>Using the AWS CLI for Lambda Logging</b>

AWS Lambda automatically reports metrics for your Lambda functions, logging all requests handled by the function and storing the logs in Amazon CloudWatch. You can insert logging statements into function code, and these custom logs are also stored in CloudWatch. All of these logs are stored to a CloudWatch Logs group associated with the Lambda function, named `/aws/lambda/<function-name>`.

Ensure that you have the AWS CLI installed and properly configured on your local machine. Please refer to [Authenticate to Workday-Provided AWS Account](/wcp_docs/GUID-aef194e4-cf8a-4d71-8550-a77573a3e512-enHYPHENus.html) for more details. To access Lambda logs using the AWS CLI:

1. Install and configure the AWS CLI on your local machine.
2. Run the following command to retrieve the logs for a specific function execution.

    ```
    aws logs filter-log-events --log-group-name "/aws/lambda/<function-name>" --start-time <start-time> --end-time <end-time>
    ```

    Replace `<function-name>` with the name of your function, and `<start-time>` and `<end-time>` with the time range for the logs you want to retrieve, in Unix timestamp format.

## <a id="section_2"></a>EventBridge Monitoring and Error Handling

Amazon EventBridge is a serverless event bus that makes it easy to connect applications together using data from your own applications, integrated Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications, and AWS services. Please refer to the [Event Bridge Troubleshooting documentation](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eventbridge/latest/userguide/eb-troubleshooting.html) for more detailed information.
