Submit the initiation step so the Extend subprocess can proceed to the next step in the workflow. To do so, use the Extend subprocess event step ID and submit it through the native Workday BP REST API. Example:

<b>Important:</b> We recommend that you check the status of the `PATCH` outbound call before you submit the event step (see the `"exclude"` attribute in the above code snippet).

-   If the `PATCH` outbound call fails, the Extend subprocess event will use the parent business process event as the event target.

    -   The item for the current initiation step will disappear from My Tasks if you don’t check the `businessProcessTarget` before submission.
    -   The Extend subprocess will be erroneously routed based on the parent business process event target.



Example: The `PATCH` outbound call would fail with empty input if the processing user doesn't have permission to create business object instance data, or didn't select an existing business object instance.
