  Reference: Graph API Metrics
layout: subsection
---

You can view Graph API metrics in the query panel of the Graph API Explorer. The metrics provide insight to Graph API performance so you can adjust your queries and mutations accordingly.

## Metrics in the Graph API Explorer

To view the metrics in the Graph API Explorer, click the <b>Metrics</b> icon on the right side of the Query panel, and select the query or mutation. After the query or mutation executes, the query panel displays execution information above each of the requested field. The metrics display as multiline comments that begin with `#_`.

To remove the metrics, click the <b>Prettify query</b> icon on the right side of the Query panel.

## Example

This query snippet displays the metrics as comments above each requested field:

```
#_ [data] time: 1466.26ms Count: 20
#_ min: 1443.31ms, max: 1499.34ms, med: 1462.28ms, p80: 1488.31ms, p95: 1499.14ms
data {
  #_ [workdayID] time: 1455.63ms Count: 20
  #_ min: 1438.34ms, max: 1493.17ms, med: 1449.56ms, p80: 1469.7ms, p95: 1492.8ms
  workdayID {
     #_ [id] time: 0ms Count: 20
     #_ min: 0ms, max: 0ms, med: 0ms, p80: 0ms, p95: 0ms
     id
  }
  #_ [descriptor] time: 1464.36ms Count: 20
  #_ min: 1442.07ms, max: 1499.2ms, med: 1460.36ms, p80: 1487.38ms, p95: 1498.98ms
  descriptor
}
```

## Metric Data

Each metric contains this information:

<table><thead><tr><th>Metric Field</th><th>Description</th><th>Example</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>[fieldName]</td><td>The schema field name.</td><td>[data]</td></tr><tr><td>time: 00.00ms</td><td>The average execution time to retrieve the field data, in milliseconds.</td><td>time: 1466.26ms</td></tr><tr><td>Count: 0</td><td>The count of field resolvers, which are functions responsible for fetching the data.</td><td>Count: 20</td></tr><tr><td>min: 00.00ms</td><td>The minimum execution time to retrieve the field data, in milliseconds.</td><td>min: 1443.31ms</td></tr><tr><td>max: 00.00ms</td><td>The maximum execution time to retrieve the field data, in milliseconds.</td><td>max: 1499.34ms</td></tr><tr><td>med: 00.00ms</td><td>The median execution time to retrieve the field data, in milliseconds.</td><td>med: 1462.28ms</td></tr><tr><td>pN: 00.00ms</td><td>The Nth percentile for request execution time, in milliseconds. The percentile displays and increases as the data increases in your request.</td><td>p80: 1469.7ms <p>p95: 1498.98ms</p></td></tr></tbody></table><br/>

<b>Notes</b>:

- The times returned for children fields are potentially parallel execution times.

    It's possible to see average execution times for children fields that are greater than the average execution time of the parent field. Example: Note the sample average times for the children fields of `data` from a sample query:

    -   [data] time: 1466.26ms
    -   [workdayID] time: 1455.63ms
    -   [descriptor] time: 1464.36ms

    ```
    #_ [data] time: 1466.26ms Count: 20
    #_ min: 1443.31ms, max: 1499.34ms, med: 1462.28ms, p80: 1488.31ms, p95: 1499.14ms
    data {
      #_ [workdayID] time: 1455.63ms Count: 20
      #_ min: 1438.34ms, max: 1493.17ms, med: 1449.56ms, p80: 1469.7ms, p95: 1492.8ms
      workdayID {
         #_ [id] time: 0ms Count: 20
         #_ min: 0ms, max: 0ms, med: 0ms, p80: 0ms, p95: 0ms
         id
      }
      #_ [descriptor] time: 1464.36ms Count: 20
      #_ min: 1442.07ms, max: 1499.2ms, med: 1460.36ms, p80: 1487.38ms, p95: 1498.98ms
      descriptor
    }
    ```

- A parent field has at least 1 resolver, which searches for the requested children fields.

    If the children fields don't have data, their resolver count will be `0` while the parent field resolver is `1`. Example:

    ```
    #_ [scanStatus] time: 131.06ms Count: 1
       scanStatus {
         #_ [workdayID] Count: 0
         workdayID {
           #_ [id] Count: 0
           id
         }
         #_ [descriptor] Count: 0
         descriptor
       }
    ```
